2012 Bag Tag Kickoff Report

This morning was the kickoff event for the 2012 Bag Tag Season at Crane Creek Regional and we had a really beautiful day for it. Because a lot of people wanted to be sure to get home in time to watch the playoff game between the 49ers and the Saints (17 to 14 at the half), we started sending out groups at 9am when it was still a little frosty out. It later warmed up considerably. We had a good turnout at 17 players, which is what we like to see because it enables us to pay out 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. This year, we are holding back $1 per player which will be added into the final payout of the year. To be eligible to play in that final event and be in the running for the cumulative payout you must have played in at least 5 monthly events during the year.. If you have not played in 5 monthlies, you would only be eligible for the payout from the final event, not the cumulative payout.

It’s a brand new year at Crane Creek Disc Golf Activities. We took over the weeklies in July and it was six months we enjoyed greatly. We hope that this year will be even more enjoyable for all. We have some old activities are returning, some of them with enhancements or new twists, and we will have some new ones beginning.

First of all, we have new, improved, 2012 bag tags on sale!. Last year’s tags needed to only last for 6 months (and some didn’t make it that long). We learn from our mistakes. This years’ bag tags are more sturdy, visible and generally better. The price of the 2012 tags will be the same as last years’. There will be some changes to the events themselves. Check out the Bag Tag Events page for details We will kick off the Challenge year on January 14th at 10am. The monthly Bag Tag Challenges will continue to be held at 10am on the Saturday nearest the middle of the month. For 2012, the Disc Golf Outlaws sponsor the “Renegade Series Ace Craze”, and all Crane Creek Disc Golf Activities will participate in the series. Players participating in any of the organized Crane Creek Events will get points for their aces that will result in awards next December. 2012 will see an enhancement to our Weekly Random Doubles held every Sunday at 2pm. On random days…(hummm…random days of random doubles..having trouble getting my head around that one, especially on New Year’s day) we will have “So Sorry” days. Just a little something to feed the ‘mean streak’ in all of us. You’ll find out more when Random Doubles return on January 8th.

We had a really great turnout for random doubles this Sunday. 18 hearty and enthusiastic player showed up to participate! This made for a really great payout. Winning the round, with a tremendous 36 was the team of Dave(Brownlee) and Noah. They split $32.00 for their efforts. Coming in second with a total of 39 was the team of Lewis(Bitney…that guy again?) and Colton. They split a total of $22.00. We had two teams tie for third at 40 each. So the teams of Raul Negrete/George Houston and Bill Dooley/Jake Moxie fought it out for the third place purse of $18.00. The team of Bill Dooley (and he claims he isn’t an A pool player?) and Jake Moxie won and ran off with the cash. We really like to see a turnout like this because everyone gets a great payout and play is a lot of fun. This was a very competitive bunch, with team scores of 36, 39, 40, 40, 42, 45 and 46. Really great bunch.

Sunday Doubles

We had a nice turnout today for random doubles, and, as usual, when we have a nice turnout, we enjoy paying out first, second and third places. The team of Bill Dooley and Bob Proctor took first place splitting $22.00. They tied with the team of Noah and Johnnie at 11 under, but edged them out in the playoff. So Noah and Johnie split the second place purse of $14.00. We also had two teams tie at 9 under but Lewis Bitney and Sharon Carson took the playoff and split the third place purse of $10.00. So…on to next week, same time same channel.

Bag Tag Event

The next to last bag tag event of the 2011 season will take place at 10am on Saturday, Nov 19th, 2012. Entry fee is $5.00 and we pay out 1st, 2nd and third places if we have enough participants. This will leave December 17th as the final event this year. The 2012 Bag Tags will be available at the 2012 Kickoff on Saturday, January 14th, 2012. At that time, whoever turns in the lowest 2011 Bag Tag will receive their new (more sturdy) 2012 bag tag at no charge plus a Crane Creek T-shirt. 2012 bag tags will be $10 and entry fee for the January event will be $5.00.
